MINTON OBITUARIES

 

John Harve Minton

Mr. Minton was married in February 1902 to Virginia Ann Stafford who preceded him in death as

she passed away January 1, 1916 and was buried in the Shoemaker cemetary, Four children who

survive were born to this union, Cora Hazel Minton, George William Minton, Andrew Jackson

Minton, and Elbert Snow Minton.

On December 3, 1916 Mr. Minton was married to Jennie Lillie Cress who with four children born of

this union also survive him. The children are Mrs. Rosa Minton Stubblefield, Scott Worth Minton,

Roy Tipton Minton, and John Harve Minton Jr.

Other survivors are one sister Mrs.Rachel Barnett, Somerset, Ky, two brothers, Julius Campbell

Minton, New Tazewell and Marion Minton, Spartansburg, N.C. and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday September 6 at 10:30 A.M. at the Midway Methodist Church

with the Rev. Gunnar Teilmann Jr. and the Rev. Andy Buchanan, officiating, Interment was in the

Shoemaker cemetary. Coffey Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral.

 

JULIUS CAMPBELL MINTON

 

MINTON, Julius Campbell was born January 7, 1881 and departed this life July 19, 1949 being 68

years, 6 months and 12 days of age. He was united in marriage to Matilda Simmons Feb. 6, 1907

and to this union were born four children, Chester, Andy Davis, Neil, and Rosco, all of whom

survive. Other survivors are six grandchildren, one brother, E.M. Minton, and one sister, Mrs.

Rachel Barnett. He was converted and joined the church at an early age and remained a devoted

church member. His life was a shining Christian example not only to his family, but to the community

in which he lived. His presence will be missed by all. Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Friday at

the Simmons Chapel church with Rev. Levi Sailer and Rev. C.A. Meyers officiating. Interment in the

church cemetary. Coffey-Stubblefield Funeral Home in charge.

 

JAMES TIPTON MINTON

Freight Train Strike, Kills Section Hand

James Minton Is Victim of Rail Tragedy Near New Tazewell.

NEW TAZEWELL, Aug.10-James Tipton Minton, 55-year-old section gang worker, was killed

when struck by a Southern freight train here about 3 a.m. today.

Coroner H.A.Greer said evidence indicated a loose rod struck Minton as he was walking along the

the track on the way home from town.

Minton is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Minton, and one brother, both of Middlesboro, Ky.

The body is at the New Tazewell Funeral home. Funeral services are to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday

at the Methodist church with the Rev. Mr. Taylor and the Rev. Mr. Staniford officiating. Burial will

be in the Greer cemetary near New Tazewell.

 

JOHN MINTON

 

John Minton was born July 4, 1876, the son of John and Evelyn Minton of New Tazewell, passed

away April 24, 1953 in Middlesboro hospital. Survivors: wife; Mrs. Martha Philps, Lone Mountain;

sons, Hobert Minton, Grundy, Va., Howard Minton, Cincinnati, Ohio; daughters,Mrs. Dant Parris,

Allock, Ky., Mrs. William Lynch, Monroe, Mich., Mrs. Edmond Hopson, Morristown, Miss., Miss

Bertha Minton, Loan Mountain; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, Funeral services were

held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Loan Mountain Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Buchanan and

Rev. E.R. Allison officiating. Interment in the Minton cemetary. Coffey-Stubblefield in charge.

 

ELBERT SNOW MINTON

Minton,Elbert-age 67 of Route 2 Rockford, Tn. passed away Friday at U.T. Hospital. He was a

member of Washburn St. Baptist Church and retired from Southern Railway. Survivors: wife Mary

Minton; step-daughter, Jean Davis, Rockford; step-granddaughter, Patricia Smart, Powell; 2

grandchildren; step-mother, Mrs. Harve Minton, New Tazewell; sister, Hazel Minton and Rosa

Stubblefield, both of New Tazewell; brothers, Andrew, Roy T.,and John H. all of Knoxville, and

Scott Minton of Powell. Funeral services 2 p.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home Chapel in New

Tazewell, with the Rev. James Loy and Rev. Elbert Kipps officiating.Interment in Shoemaker

Cemetary, New Tazewell. The family will recieve friends at Reece Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Stubblefield, Funeral Home, Morristown, in charge of arrangements.

 

ANDREW JACKSON MINTON

Minton, Andrew Jackson age 76, of 127 W.Columbia Ave., Knoxville, died 10:38 p.m. Thursday,

May 30, 1985, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Member of Oakwood Baptist Church, Brotherhood

of Railroad Trainmen and UTU Lodge 750. Survivors: wife, Mrs. Mary Minton; daughters,

Mrs.Jeanetta Britt, Mrs. Claude (Marie) Ferguson, both of Knoxville, Mrs. Jerry (Virginia) Yates of

Ohio, Mrs. Charles (Gail) Carmon, Powell; sons, Hubert (Buddy) Minton of Maryland, Ray Richard

Minton, Eddie Gene Minton, Gary Lynn Minton, all of Knoxville; 25 grandchildren; 19 great

grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Minton, Mrs. Rosa Stubblefield, both of New Tazewell; brothers, Scott

Minton, Powell, Roy Minton, J.H.Minton, both of Knoxville. Funeral service 2:30 p.m. Sunday at

Stevens Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Charles Whitson and Rev. Claude Ferguson officiating. Interment

Greenwood Cemetary. Arrangements by Stevens Mortuary.
