DAVID SNODGRASS JR. WILL

 

5 Jan 1828 -- Will Bk. 6, pg. 18: I David Snodgrass of Washington County and state of Virginia being weak in body and calling to mind the mortality of the same, but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, to wit, first I direct that after my decease my body be decently buried at the discretion of my executor herein after named, and out of my personal estate, all my just debts and funeral charges be paid, secondly I bequeath to my wife Elizabeth my negro woman Bess my negro girl Mas and Ann a child of two years old, one horse, all my stock of cattle, eight sheep, fourteen hogs all my farming utensils all my household and kitchen furniture to the whole and sole use of her forever. I also will and direct that my wife enjoy the use of my plantation to be under her control and at her own disposal during her life, and after her decease I will and direrct that David S Hathorn and his heirs enjoy my plantation forever. I bequeath to Eliza Hathorn my negro girl Gin to be received by her immediately after my decease and to enjoyed by her and her heirs forever The remainder of my personal property not devised I direct that it be sold at such credit as my executor may think best, and out of the money arising therefrom I direct that my executor pay to my nephew David Coffit [vss - ? David Coffield, s/o Jean Snodgrass & John Coffield who m. 1795 - would prove that David Snodgrass d. 1828 is s/o David d. 1814] twenty five dollars, the remainder of the money arising from the said sale together with my cash on hand also all debts due to me I leave to my beloved wife to her use forever. Lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my friend Samuel Hathorn executor of this my last Will and testament hereby revoking all former Wills or Testaments by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this 5th day of January 1828. David (his mark) Snodgrass witnesses: Jas. Orr & James Reid. Proved in court 18 Mar 1828; Samuel Hathorn granted administration with James Orr and James Reid his securities.
