THOMAS MINTON 1766-1836

Thomas Minton was born 1766 in Shropshire, England, Married Before 1791, Died in 1836. He had three children: Rev. Thomas Webb Minton 1791-1870, Herbert Minton 1793-1858 and Mqry (Minton) Campbell 1796-1885.

Thomas founded the Minton Limited - Minton China Works in Stoke-On-Trent in England in 1793 engraving the "Willow Pattern " and others for such firms as Spode, Wedgewood, and Adams.after being brought up as an engraver at Caughley pottery works, near Broseley, under John Turner, who is stated to have discovered the art of printing in blue on china. He afterward went to London and worked for Spode at his London house of business. His name became famous during his lifetime.

Thomas son Herbert was born at Stoke-On-Trent February 4, 1793, was educated at Audlem School, Cheshire and in 1817 he and his eldest brother Thomas Webb were taken into partnership. Thomas died in 1836 and Thomas Webb entered the church. Herbert lived many years near Hartshill, near Stoke, where in 1842 he built and endowed a church and schools. Herbert died April 1, 1858 at Torquay ans was buried at Hartshill. Herbert Minton had no children, and although the firm which became a Limited Company in 1882 and a public Company in 1953, is still controled and directed by the same family,  the name changed after the second generation because descent was through Thomas Minton's daughter.

Mary Minton, only daughter of Thomas, was born in 1796 and married John Campbell. They had two sons, Colin Minton Campbell and Arthur Minton Campbell. Mary died in 1885.

Authur Minton Campbell had a son named John Campbell and Colin Minton Campbell had son John Fitzherbert Campbell b.1861, d. 1918.

John Campbell had 2 sons Arthur John Campbell retired in 1944, George Campbell present director and daughter Helen Campbell who married Rev.Preb. Edgar Harthill and John Fitzherbert Campbell  had 2 sons named Colin Herbert Campbell and Henry Fitzherbert Campbell and a daughter named Gwenllian Mary Campbell who married Charles Harry Lyon.

Helen (Campbell) Harthill had son named John Edgar Harthill present managing director and Gwenllin Mary (Campbell) Lyon had daughter Frances Mary Lyon b. 1912, d.1947 who married Einar Athelstan Gordon Present chairman.
