PASSION (PALM) SUNDAY
April 4, 2004
In the last days of his life, Jesus is stripped of his dignity, but not his humanity. H e is tried three times, mocked beaten & spat upon. His disciples slink away. Peter denies him. When dying on the cross, Jesus forgives. When despair might be natural, Jesus gives his spirit to God who had given it to him. As Jesus dies, a soldier at the cross confesses, “Truly, this man was God’s Son.” Today, we can focus on the tragedy of a man or the triumph of God in the man. May we remember that in every event the mystery of God is present, enriching and ennobling us as we draw near to Jesus who is lifted up.
