I cannot doubt that there are Angels on earth because 16 years ago I was
fortunate enough to meet one. Our friendship was instant, and from the begining
I think we knew that this was a rare thing we had stumbled into. Our lives
have taken us different places, more often than not far away from each other,
but she was always my rock, my lighthouse in the storm quietly waiting to
help me find my way home if ever I was lost. It doesn't matter if we talked
yesterday or if it's been years the friendship remains the same there are
no quiet moments trying to find something to say to a person who has become
a stranger, we could never be strangers. She knows my secret thoughts before
I can even put them into words she knows every corner of my mind and my heart.
The only thing I don't think she fully understands is how very much I love
her and that she is the strongest, bravest person I have EVER known, she
has been through more than any one person should be asked to endure, and
is she bitter is she resentful, not a chance. She has come through it all
shining with an inner light that darkens even the sun. No matter what my
troubles may be she brings a smile to my face the moment she picks up the
phone (when she finally picks up the phone). She is finally happy as she
so rightfully deserves to be and though I tease her that I hate her for having
so much love and happiness no one earth is happier for her than me.
Thank you for just being you.
There's a comforting thought at the close of the day,
When I'm weary and lonely and sad,
That sort of grips hold of my crusty old heart
And bids it be merry and glad
It gets in my soul and it drives out the blues
And finally thrills through and through
It is just a sweet memory that chants the refrain;
"I'm glad I touched shoulders with you"
Did you know you were brave, did you know you were strong?
Did you know there was one leaning hard?
Did you know that I waited and listened and prayed.
And was cheered by your simplest word?
Did you know that I longed for that smile on your face,
For the sound of your voice ringing true?
Did you know I grew stronger and better because
I had merely touched shoulders with you?
I am glad that I live, that I battle and strive
For the place that I know I must fill;
I am thankful for sorrows, I'll meet with a grin
What fortune may send, good or ill.
I may not have wealth, I may not be great,
But I know I shall always be true,
For I have in my life that courage you gave
When once I rubbed shoulders with you
