Hypolite (Paul) Bonnevie 1875-1916
Translation:
Dear Cousin,
I receive your letters and am alway happy to learn that you defend yourself well.  I am happy to learn (hear) that you received a promotion.  Now try to become worthy of it, and always be submissive to your superiors, always having the fear of God, you will some day come out of it victoriously.
Well, not much news- a little snow and cold weather since a week--last Sunday the thermometer went as low as 21 below zero.
Concerning the war around here, we do not  fear it although, the Germans are quite furious.  The other day , a famous German tried to blow up the bridge over the River, Sainte Croix that is to say on the border of Canada and the United States.  He was caught immediately and now the authorities are making him experience bad quarter hours.
The U.S. seems to have the upper hand in this war, but we don't fear because England is always there and will be at our disposal whenever we will need her.
We always pray for you, and dare to be brave and honest and Divine Providence will know how  to protect you.
  Our good wishes,
From your Cousin,  Thaddee A. Bonnevie
P.S.  My brother encloses a few words
