M. D. Mays.  He was ordered to be shot for desertion, the Sec. of War suspended his sentence for 30 days to give Pres. Davis time to reconsider.  Captured at Port Hudson, La. near Vicksburg 4 July 1863 and sent to Point Lookout, Md. Oct 30 1863.  Admitted to U.S.A. hospital and died 20 Nov 1863.  He was from Morristown, Tn. Burried at Macedonia Baptist Church, Hamblen Co., TN. (12)
