          Autumn Splendor

I think Autumn is the prettiest of the four seasons. It's not only the turning of the leaves and the crispness in the air, but even the seasonal fruits and vegetables, add to the ambience. We look forward to two annual celebrations in our family. Each October, Marty invites us for what he calls, "Harvest Home" and Donna has us for Octoberfest. Homes and tables can be beautifully decorated in the Autumn. Dried leaves in gold, orange and burgundy are a must and make a simple, yet elegant centerpiece for any table. Decorating for the Fall can be as much fun as decorating for Christmas!

Aside from having bowls filled with gords and autumn pot-pourri around the house, I go full scale for the Fall. My friend Patty makes beautiful decorative pumpkins. She uses mini-pumpkins and she removes the stems. She then glue guns a piece of styrofoam on top of the pumpkin. Into the styrofoam she inserts dried flowers, wheat, dried chili peppers etc., so a lovely bouquet emerges from the pumpkin. A cinnamon stick glued horizontally will hide the styrofoam. These I place all over the house...on mantles, window sills and so on. I have a footed bowl which I fill with Autumn pot-pourri, and some lady apples and place a decorative pumpkin in the center. This makes for a lovely centerpiece. These decorative pumpkins also make-well received hostess gifts! The image below will give you a good idea of how the pumpkins look. Patty does hers with more ferns and autumn colors.

There are some lovely wreaths and swags available for the Autumn, and as I mentioned before, vases filled with dried leaves of burgundy, orange and gold make a beautiful fall display. And these leaves can be saved from year to year. Wrap them in plastic from the dry cleaners and stand them up in a closet. They'll be fine until next Autumn! Silk vine leaves are nice too around the house at this time of year, with lights if possible! You can put them around a door, window or on a mantle with some gords.
Well, that's how I decorate and celebrate the Autumn...lets see what some others do, shall we?
