Well it looks like there will be no Triple Crown Winner for 2009!! Our last Triple Crown Winner was in 1978, when Affirmed raced nose to nose, defeating the sire of Alysheba, Alydar, in the most thrilling of Belmont Stakes.
This party will be an easy one...let's get a move on!
Kudos to Rachel Alexandra on her historic win of The Preakness Stakes!
Affirmed and Alydar
Chris McCarron aboard Alysheba
Alysheba followed in his father's footsteps racing nose to nose with his own rival, Bet Twice...only this time it was Alysheba who was the Triple Crown contender going into the Belmont Stakes.
Alysheba was defeated by his Rival Bet Twice and there was no Triple Crown Winner that year. Sadly, Alysheba passed early 2009!Table Setting
The official flower for the Belmont Stakes, to be held here in New York, on June 6th, is the white carnation. The song you're hearing is called, "New York, New York" and is played, usually during the Post Parade...at one time the song played was "The Sidewalks of New York".
I'm doing a black and white motif again, here. White tablecloth, black plates and utensils and white napkins. I have a black vase, which can easily be obtained at a craft or dime store. I'll fill that with white carnations and baby's breath and flank on either side with white candles , set in black candle holders. I've extended the black and white theme onto my guests. Everyone owns black or white apparel. So guests in attendance will be dressed in black and white. It's fun!
No recipes for this party...anything that has that "New Yawk" kinda feel to it will do fine! The weather is warming up so burgers and franks may be the answer. This is what I'll be serving:
O.K....I'll give the recipe for the mushrooms :0) MENU
Teryaki Mushrooms
Combine teryaki, wine and garlic and set aside. Saute mushrooms in a non stick pan that has been well sprayed with butter flavored Pam. Once the mushrooms are in the pan, coat with the Pam. Coat with Pam as needed, while continuing to saute over medium high heat. When mushrooms are brown, throw in the teryaki mixture. Make sure the pan is nice and hot, so the mixture sizzles. Coat mushrooms with mixture and continue to saute until mixture is about 90% absorbed by the mushrooms. You'll want to leave some of the juice in with the mushrooms. Delicious over the steak!
Who is Scoop picking for this race?
Let's hope so! The champagne is chilling!
