Anthony T. Morris was a prominent Center District, Wetzel County, West Virginia farmer. Anthony was born in Center District October 25, 1856. The son of William and Nancy LOUDENSLAGER Morris. For many years Anthony was a school teacher in Wetzel County as well as being a farmer. Anthony became a teacher somewhere about 1880. He had a second level teaching degree and only made about $26.00 a month. On May 6, 1911, at the age of 55, Anthony married Mary SEES. Together they had two children. Mary Pauline Morris, born January 5, 1913, in Wileyville, Wetzel County; and William Anthony Morris, born February 26, 1918, in Wileyville. Anthony also helped to raise several of his nieces and nephews as well as several of Mary's grandchildren. He was loved by all children. As well as being a well liked and respected gentleman, by all of the people in Wileyville.
I have been told be numerous people that Anthony had owned a store in Wileyville. At this time I have no documentation of this store. I have also been told that Anthony was a town Magistrate or town official, but again I have no documentation.
On March 10, 1935, Anthony died at his home. He was found lying in his bed. He was in the postition that he always slept. On his side, fetal postition, hands between his knees. Anthony was buried in Moore Cemetery, Wetzel County. Overlooking his home. |
