I was one of five small little puppies born to a family that could have cared less about us. Well maybe it wasn't they didn't care, but they didn't have enough money to buy a lot of food, and they yelled a lot. The little girl in the house was named Tabitha and she was nice to me but she always held me to tight and it made it hard to get my breath.
One day Tabitha told me she was gonna find me and my brothers a good home, so she took us behind her house to some apartments. There was a lot of kids in the back yard playing and two old women (ok, they were not that old, but when your only 7 weeks old, everybody is old) sitting in chairs. I thought to my self hummmm…I can charm my way into somebody's heart and onto their couch.
Once Tabitha got in sight of all the kids, they started grabbing and going "ooohhh mom I want one" I closed my eyes cause I thought man I'm gonna get smooched. Then I felt a pair of hands lift me up, and I opened my eyes and looked up at the most beautiful (human) face I have ever seen. She was like a vision, with long soft curly golden hair, and green eyes the color of emeralds. Of course I didn't know at the time what emeralds were (hey, I was only 7 weeks old) but I knew they said "LOVE".
Then I found out this wonderful persons name was Genea'. I know that cause everyone was yelling "I wannta hold him Genea;" But she carried me over to one the old ladies in the chair, and said "can we keep him?" I was thinking YES,YES, but then I heard the old lady say "there is noway." Then Genea' put me in the old ladies lap and she picked me up and looked me straight in the eyes and said "you stink." I was scared but I could see the old lady had a soft spot. I gave her a lick on the nose and I knew at that point I had a new home. Only she didn't say so yet.
It didn't take long for the news to get out that there was puppies being given away for free, and there was hands grabbing left and right. But I stayed with Genea' and evertime someone tried to get me she would just pull me close and say "no, he's mine" It also didn't take long to find out Genea' was like me, not a only child. Her brother and sister came running up going "are we getting a dog? Ooh, mama please, please!!" The old lady just sat there not saying a word.
The boy's name was Keith and the girl's name was Tiffany. They all promised to give me a bath (yuck!) and feed me, and clean up after me. The old lady still just sat there, not saying a word, ok so she was saying a word, but it is a word I don't' really like so I don't use it a lot. Finally Genea' took me back in her arms and walked over to the old lady, she put on this sad puppy dog face, I was thinking man this chick is good. I've got to remember this face! She looked up at the old lady and said "he needs us to love him." The old lady just stared at me, then she looked up at Genea' (and the face) and then back at me. I was thinking oh well, it was a good try, and then the old lady said "but what would we name him?"
I knew I was in at the point I had a new and good home!!!!
