Walk Down Memory Lane!!

Hello Friends !! It's always so good to have friends that drop
by or those that I can write and reminiscence with. So As I sit
here writing you this note just remember that you need to......
"Hang in there with me !!"
Now,"Close" your eyes.....
And let's go
back........ Let's see how many of you can remember......
Playing hide and go seek at dusk.
Sittin' on the porch,
Hot bread and butter.
Red light, Green light.
A "six" pack of Cokes for 25 cents.
Chocolate milk, Lunch tickets,
Penny candy in a brown paper bag.
Hopscotch, butterscotch, doubledutch
Jacks, kickball, jumprope, y'all remember!
Kids saying, "Mother, May I?"
The smell of the sun and lickin' salty lips....

Wait! Wait a minute......
Catchin' lightening bugs in a jar,
Playing sling shot and Red Rover.
When around the corner seemed far away,
And going downtown seemed like going somewhere.
Bedtime, Climbing trees,
A million mosquito bites and sticky fingers,
Cops and Robbers,
Cowboys and Indians,
Sittin on the curb,
Jumpin down the steps,
Pillow fights,
Being tickled to death,
Runnin till you were out of breath,
Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt,
Being tired from playin'.... Remember that?
Licking the beaters when your mother made a cake.

Didn't that feel good.. Ahhh !! just to go back and say, "Yeah, I remember that!"
Remember when...
There were two types of sneakers for girls and boys (Keds & PF
Flyers), and the only time you wore them at school, was for "gym."
When nearly everyone's mom was at home when the kids got there.
a quarter was a decent allowance, and another quarter a huge
bonus.
You could get into the movies for a dime and get a
bag of popcorn and a coke for fifteen cents !!
you'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny.
girls neither dated nor kissed until late high school, if then
your mom wore nylons that came in two pieces.
all of your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had
their hair done, everyday.

Hey !! Remember......
When you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, "FULL SERVICE" for free all the time and you didn't pay for air.
Plus,
you got S & H green stamps to boot!
When laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside
the box.
When any parent could discipline any kid, feed him or have him
carry groceries, and nobody, not even the kid, thought a thing of it.
When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a
real restaurant with your parents.
When they threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed ...and
did!
When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the
fate that awaited a misbehaving student at home.
Basically, we were in fear for our lives but it wasn't because of drive
by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Disapproval of our parents
and
grandparents was a much bigger threat!
When you went to bed in the summer with nothing but a screen
door "latched."
When Saturday nights were spent walking the "block" up town !
Or if you really got lucky, Dad let you drive the Studebaker on Friday nights !

How Many of you can remember....
Putting up your card for the amount of "Ice" Needed from the delivery man!"
Milk in a glass jar with a cardboard stopper.
Party lines !! Gracious !!
Old Wash Tub Wringers.
When there were Newsreels before the movie.
When People stood and placed their hand over their heart for
the "Star Sprangle Banner" inside the Movie Threater.
Maybe I'm older than most of you........but most of these things are
pleasant memories for me!!!!!!!!!

WE ARE SUVIVORS !!
We were born before television, before pencillin, before polio shots, frozen foods, Xerox, plastic, contact lenses, frisbees, and the 'Pill'.
We were born before radar, credit cards, split atoms, laser beams, and ballpoint pens; before pantyhose, dishwashers, clothes dryers, electric blankets, air conditioners, drip-dry clothes, and before man walked on the moon.
We got married first - and then lived together. In our time, closets were for clothes, not for 'coming out of'. Bunnies were small rabbits and rabbits were not Volkswagons.

A mouse was a baby rat - not a computer input device. Designer jeans were scheming girls named Jean; and having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins. We thought 'fast food' were what you ate during Lent.
We were before house husbands, gay rights, computer dating, dual careers, and nursing homes. We never heard of FM radio, tape decks, electric typewriters, artificial hearts, word processors, yogurt, and guys wearing earrings.
For us, 'time-sharing' meant 'togetherness' - not computers or condominiums; a 'chip' was a piece of wood, hardware was nuts and bolts, and software wasn't even a word!

Pizzas, McDonalds, and instant coffee were unheard of. 'Made in Japan' meant junk and the term 'making out' referred to how we did on our school exams.
We hit the scene when there were 5 and 10 cent stores, where you bought things for 5 and 10 cents. For one nickel you could: ride a street car, buy an ice cream cone, make a phone call, buy a Pepsi; enough stamps to mail one letter and two post cards.
You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600 - but who could afford one; a pity, too, since gasoline was only 11 cents per gallon.

In our day:
Cigarette smoking was fashionable
grass was mowed
Coke was a cold drink
Pot was something that you cooked in
AIDS were helpers in the Principal's office - not a deadly disease.
We were certainly not before the difference between the sexes was discovered, but we were surely before the sex change; we made do with what we had.
And we were the last generation that husbands (as a rule) came before a baby!!
So, what happened, to those "good old days" ???
