Welcome to the library. Although not as big as we would like the library has gotten significantly bigger in the past five years and is quite extensive considering the location our school in the central arctic. The books range in reading level and area of interest. Students are encouraged to research topics, read books of general interest and to explore the world around them through literature. For the past several years a librarian has been hired to work 1/2 time in the library. This has greatly improved efforts to keep the books on the shelves and the space easily accessible.

As you can see there are traditional Inuit tools on the walls behind the librarians desk. These tools have been made in a variety of classes at the school. Some of these are used for fishing while others are for decoration such as the kayak frame just above the window. The plants in the school provide a nice touch when the winters are cold and the green has disappeared from the landscape. The library often doubles as a classroom when there is no room for a class due to overcrowding in the school. Although this can be an inconvenience it certainly has been manageable. |
