SYLVESTER F. CROWELL

Sylvester F. Crowell, ninth child and eighth and last son of John M. Crowell and his wife Nancy, was born on the 8th of January 1858 in Jackson Parish, Louisiana. His parents having died when he was younger than 12 years old, he lived with his older brothers. In 1880 Sylvester was listed on the census in the home of his elder brother, Martin J. Crowell, in Sabine County Texas.

In about 1888 Sylvester married Elizabeth Ann Gomer, who was born about August 1861 in Texas and died about 1934. Elizabeth was the daughter of Augustus C. Gomer (born about 1821-1826 in Tennessee; died 12 Feb. 1872 in Sabine Co., TX; buried Hemphill Cem.) and his second wife Margaret Ann Low, whom he married on 25 Oct. 1860. Augustus C. Gomer was the son of James Frederick Gomer (who was born in North Carolina, lived in Giles County, Tennessee, and went to Sabine County Texas from Tennessee in 1836) and his wife Anna M. (Bateman?). Margaret Ann Lowe (born 6 Nov. 1829 in Sabine Co., TX; died 20 Nov. 1891; buried Hemphill Cem.) was the daughter of Isaac Low, who went to Texas from Tennessee in 1828 and his wife Elizabeth (Parsons).

In 1900 Sylvester and Elizabeth Crowell were living in Sabine County, Texas, near Sylvester's brother, Henry Crowell. His brother Martin lived across the river in Sabine Parish, Louisiana, near Negriet.

Sylvester died on March 4, 1926. Both he and his wife were buried at the Harper Cemetery in Sabine County.

The three Children of Sylvester F. Crowell and wife Elizabeth Ann (Gomer) were:

1.  Walter Crowell; born 28 Oct. 1889, in TX.; died 3 Apr. 1936; married Katie Robbins (or Katie King);

(8) Jack Crowell

2.  Margaret "Maggie" Crowell; born 26 Dec. 1893, in TX; died 21 Aug. 1921 at childbirth; married Wick Anderson;
