1McManus, Jane Parker, 10/4/2000. "If you are fortunate enough to have the Lightfoot & Miller who were Quakers
in Pennsylvania, then you will have a lot of information available to you.
To make the connection, let me start with Mary Miller born ca 1711 who
married Isaac Jackson on 11 Jun 1730.
Mary Miller was a daughter (4th child) of James Miller and Catherine
Lightfoot. James Miller was born 24 Jun 1669 in Skerry (Co. Antrium)
Ireland and died 1749 in Leacock Twp (Lancaster) PA. I haven't determined
his parentage yet. James married Catherine in 1700 in Ireland. After her
death in 1729, James Miller married Ruth Seaton on 10 Apr 1734. After his
death, Ruth married 2nd to John Gracy on 8 May 1751.
Catherine Lightfoot was born ca 1675 in Ireland and died 17 Oct 1729 in
Philadelphia PA. She was a daughter of Thomas Lightfoot and Mary M. ?
Catherine arrived in Philadelphia in 1729 and she died a few days later.
She was a Minister in the Quaker Order.
Their children were(1) Sarah (1701 Timahoe (Kildare) Ireland / d. 26 Aug
1775 PA), married on 1 Apr 1721 to Thomas Milhous. This family is Richard
Nixon's family.
(2) Elizabeth Miller (b. 1700-1710 Ireland, married ca 1723 to Thomas Hiett.
(3) James Miller (ca 1708 Ireland / 1758 PA), married 1st to Rebecca Kirk &
2nd 1733 to Rachel Fred.
(4) Mary Miller (ca 1711 Ireland) married on 11 Jun 1730 to Isaac Jackson.
(5) Katharine Miller (30 Mar 1713 Timahoe (Kildare) Ireland / 2 Apr 1781)
married on 9 Nov 1733 to William Jackson.
(6) Ann Miller (b. ? New Garden PA) married 19 Apr 1733 to William Farquhar
- this was probably 2nd wife's child.
(7) Hannah Miller (b.?) married 31 Oct 1745 to James Jackson.
"A meeting-house was built probably later in this year, on a rectangular
tract of six acres, in the south-east corner of John Miller's original
plantation. James Miller, of New Garden, yeoman, son and heir of John
Miller, for a consideration of L1, 16s., granted the six acres, by deed of
10 Mo. 26, 1717, to Simon Hadley, James Starr, Thomas Jackson, and Michael
Lightfoot, evidently in trust for New Garden Meeting, for by deed of
December 12, 1723, the latter Friends formally transferred the land to the
Meeting." (Immigration of the Irish Quakers into Pennsylvania 1682 - 1750
With their Early History in Ireland, Part III. The Irish Friends in
Pennsylvania."
The above James Miller who married Catharine Lightfoot, daughter of Thomas
Lightfoot, in Ireland and lived for some time at Timahoe Meeting, Co.
Kildare. They arrived at Philadelphia, in the Sizargh, of Whitehaven, 9 Mo.
10, 1729. Here the wife, who was a minister in the Society, died, 10 Mo.
17, 1729. James Miller then settled with his children in New Garden. He
was married a second time to Ruth Seaton, of London Grove, 2 Mo. 10, 1734,
and removed to Leacock Township, Lancaster Co. where he died in the early
part of 1749. "Immigration of the Irish Quakers into Pennsylvania In

"Thomas Lightfoot, a highly esteemed minister of the Society of Friends, was
born about 1645, perhaps in Cambridgeshire, and may have been the son of
another Thomas Lightfoot who suffered persecution for his Quaker belief at
Cambridge, in 1653, and was a companion of George Whitehead in his religious
journeys. In 1692, the younger Thomas was living in the neighborhood of
Lisburn Meeting, County Antrim, Ireland; for on 8 Mo. 27 of that year he was
appointed on a committee to buy the Friends graveyard at Lisburn from Robert
Richardson. In 1694, he removed from the north of the Island to Moate
Meeting in County West Meath. Thence in 1716 he came to New Garden, PA.
Early in 1724 he paid a religious visit to New England. He died at Darby,
now Delaware County, 9 Mo. 4, 1725, "greatly beloved" says his intimate
friend Thomas Chalkley 'for his Piety and Virtue, his sweet disposition and
lively Ministry.' " Immigration of the Irish Quakers into Pennsylvania of

I have a list of Michael Lightfoot's (brother of our Catherine) children and
their spouses, also Samuel's children
This is all that I have on the Lightfoots at this time. We are still
looking for them, however, it becomes a little easier when you have all the
above information - except I have about 10 different surnames I am
researching in this area - all related to you.".
