Okay. Now that you have the grant number, there are four easy and painless steps in the ordering process:

Step One: Decide where to view the microfilm

1) Go to the Archives of Ontario (located in Toronto) A link to their site can be found here...OR

2) These records are available through interlibrary loan from your public library. But first make sure your public library has a microfilm reader as the film cannot leave the library.

Step Two: Decide which microfilm to view (for interlibrary loan, only 3 reels can be ordered at a time)

Step 3: The correct way to request the microfilm, whether in person or through interlibrary loan:

Microfilm #, subject, Estate File (grant number), here's an example

I want grant number 1451, therefore, here is the correct way to order:

GS1, Reel 1237, Court Records, Frontenac Surrogate Court, Estate File 1451

Step 4: If in the index, you didn't see a (x) next to the entry, then it hasn't been doublechecked for accuracy. It would make me feel better if you e-mailed me and asked me to doublecheck the grant number. Mistakes can happen entering data, and I wouldn't want you to waste your time ordering microfilm that wouldn't be of any use to you.

If you have any questions, problems, or you need to ask for a "doublecheck" on a grant number, please feel free to e-mail me.
