War, West Virginia; Police & Jail House

War, West Virginia; Old Police & Jail House

The following information was provided by web-page visitors and was received via the form below:

"During the 1980's I taught school at Bartley Elementary. Another teacher and I lived behind the jail (and liquor store). Friday and Saturday nights were pretty loud at the jail." Laurie Ratay

"This building was originally the 'Citizen Bank'. When acquired by the town, the bank vault was modified to accomodate the jail cell or cells. I can't remember whether there was more than one. The only incident that comes to mind was the attempt at escaping by a fellow I knew at the time but whose name I can't remember. He managed to get himself wedged in between jail bars - half in and half out. By morning when someone showed up this lad was begging for help." oppa1nana1@AOL.com
