My '78 FLH Project Bike

I have owned this machine since it was new, taking delivery on Nov. 2 1978 with 3.5 miles on the odometer.
The background for this page was taken at Monument Valley, Utah in 1987
This  ride has seen many changes in it's life, and with the help of some old and new photographs, I hope to keep the history of this venerable
machine alive. Currently undergoing yet another series of major changes, it will soon be back on the road, to add to it's current milage of 204768.
It has been in storage since July 3rd, 1995.

This is how it looked in 1980

This is what happens when you want a sport/tourer

All manner of changes over the years have lead to this point. In 1980, I built the engine up to 98 cubic inches, using a prototype S&S Sidewinder kit
Power has never been a problem, even when the bike was fully dressed and weighed in at nearly 900 lbs.

Everything has to start somewhere.
This is how the bike has been since 1995........APART!

Here is the power train, assembled on the shop floor

Yes, this is a four spark plug engine, and has been so since 1984

This picture is of the roughly assembled bike,
with all the parts coming together for the first time!

Doesn't look too bad, doesn't weigh too much either
FatBoy front fender, Superglide tank, Dresser front end, Wide Glide
rear fender, Lowrider Collector exhaust. The oil tank
and the battery box fill up the square empty space.
Yep, Triple Ventilated Disk brakes and '86 handlebar controls

Here it is parked by my 1980 FLT Tourglide
The bikes are almost exactly the same size,
but the T seems a lot larger

Obviously, it is a long way from finished. I will post updates as the project progresses
