Notes for EDWARD VINCENT PURVIS:

Letter from R.M. Johnson 2231 Hwy 441 N Dublin, Ga 31021: 9 Jul 1998

Dear Mr Chambers,

I'm sorry to be late in replying to your letter. I was hospitalized w hen it arrived and am just now feeling well enough to reply.

There is no mention of a Vincent Edward Purvis or of henrietta Morga n Purvis in our church records or among grave markers in our church c emetery.

Evergreen Methodist Church is a small rural church and does not hav e a historian. I contacted one of the members who reviewed the brie f records and she found only these Purvis and Ussery names. I was tol d that no other information was found for these persons:

B.E. Purvis, joined 1902(This could be your V.E. Purvis, with a mis-w ritten first initial, but there is no way of knowing today)

G.E. Purvis, joined 1902.

Minnie Lee Purvis, joined 1903. (This could be your Mamie Lee Purvis)

Joseph D. ussery joined 1902.

There are two cemeteries in the vicinity of our church. The first, ca lled "Popular Springs Cemetery"., was in use on private property befo re our church was founded. Burials were held there up until some 50 t o 60 years ago. It has never been under control of our church. It i s rather large in size but has long been abandoned and is overgrown w ith brush and trees. Those who have visited it say they have been una ble to find a single headstone, and that gravesites were usually mark ed with large rocks. It remains on private property. The second is Po pular Springs North Baptist Church Cemetery which dates from around 1 867 and is in use today.

It is believed that your V.E. Purvis was buried in Popular Springs Ce metery.

We wish we could be of more help.

Sincerely,
