MY FATHER'S CHURCH

by bartermn
Dad was no woodworker. His idea of a birdfeeder was a piece
of plywood on a stump. He did love to watch the birds though, and
didn't mind if squirrels joined them at the feeder.

He spent hours watching from his kitchen window; Doves,
Sparrows, Chickadees, Grackles,he didn't care what kind of birds
visited, he'd feed them all.

Though it may look simple, I spent more time designing Dad's
birdfeeder than any other I have built, and I have made a bunch of
them. Once I figured out the style, I knew it had to have a steeple
and drew many versions before deciding upon the one below. The point
lifts off to pour the seed into the interior. I also wanted it to
appear to have stained glass windows without acually adding them.
I hope I succeeded. I took this picture before setting the church
on a locust post.
