02/29/48

My name is Carol and I'm trying to locate my Mother's birth family. This is the info I have on her. Mary Frances Marr was born on Feb 29, 1948 in Nashua, New Hampshire. Her father was 36 and her Mother was 22. She was her mother's third child. Her father was a chef and mother was a housewife. My mother was 1lb 8oz when born. A miracle child, I call her especially back then. She has been blind in her left eye since birth. She's left handed. She has think wavy dark brown/black hair, brown eyes, fair skin. She was put in an orphanage in Florida at age 6 (1954). She was placed with her adoptive parents in 1955 in Baltimore. The adoption wasn't finalized until 1958. Now known as Mary Frances Lawrence. They eventually moved to Colorado. We have been given her father's death date and place. With this info I put it in the Social Security Death Index and the name that came up was Vernett Marr. Since receiving this name I have been doing searching on my own. Now, we are not positive this is in fact her father, but everything seems to fit. I found a Vernett Marr Jr in Ipswich, Massachusetts and wrote him a letter. We had a great discussion. I told him about my search and found out that he hadn't talked to his father since he was 27. He's 65 now. Apparently his father was in the Air Force, which didn't match the occupation I had for my Mom's father. I told him that my Mom's father was a chef and he agreed saying yes he was a chef, that was his trade in the military. So that matched up. So I asked if had any siblings by his father and he said no. Then he told me that his father left them when he was 12. That matches too since my Mom is 13 years younger than this man. So, we are still trying to compare some information. I do not however have any info on my Grandmother. My theory is that Vernett Marr was not the father of the two older children of my Mom's mother. So their last names are most likely different. Well, Mr. Vernett Marr Jr. told me that his father was quite the ladies man and he knew his father had another family in New Jersey (which is where he died 5 years ago). My mother and I happen to live in NJ, but we are not who he is talking about. My next task will be to send a letter to every person in NJ with the last name of Marr and ask them if they are related to Vernett Marr. If any of this sounds remotely familiar, please e-mail me with any questions. Thanks for listening and for those searching, Good Luck. Carol
