Isabel Moore was born October 4, 1774, to an Irish immigrant, Michael Moore and his wife Esther (Rea) Moore, probably in New Jersey. While Isabel’s father was off fighting in the struggle for independence of this great nation, Isabel was growing into womanhood. After that freedom was won, she, with her parents and family, in 1790, moved to Shamokin Township, Northumberland County, PA. There they settled what was later known as the Moore homestead. Isabel reached adulthood in this Indian rich, unbroken wilderness. She and Samuel Sober were married in about 1796 or 97. Samuel and Isabel had at least seven children. They lived the remainder of thier lives in this country, helping to settle the area. Isabel died June 12, 1842 at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 8 days. She is buried by the side her husband in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Shamokin. |

note: Some documentation refers to her as Isabella while others just as Isabel. I imagine that Isabel was just a nick name but one can’t be positive. |
