A SHARING CORNER FOR PARENTS (updated 12 Apr 1999)
Children
not only learned how to do things from Dad and Mom, they also learned about life. They saw
their parents' values and ethics in action every day in their homes.
Moms and dads still have "little apprentices" watching how they put their actions and beliefs into practice. It goes on at meal time, in the car, in the store, in conversation with or about neighbors - all the time. What a wonderful opportunity to teach our children how to live for Christ! And young people not only need it, they want it.
Paul told his children in the faith to imitate him - to follow his example ( 1
Cor. 4:16). Are we living for Christ in such a way that we want our children to
imitate us?
Our children watch and
imitate
The things we say and do;
So if we imitate the Lord,
They'll imitate Him too.
Children may close their ears to advice, but their eyes are always open to example.
One of the most vital aspect of parenting is relationship. Only when we maintain close fellowship with our children can we instruct them properly. When parents and their children share a relationship of mutual respect, new moments of teaching build themselves into a lifetime of love and strong values.
Mom and Dad, make it easier for your children to listen to your teaching
by nourishing the relationship. It will help make looking back a great experience.
God gives us children
for a time
To train them in His way,
To love them and to teach them how
To follow and obey.
