DENISE GIRARD BOLEY

L. Denise Boley, 62, of Elma, died of breast cancer Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, in Providence St. Peter Hospital at Olympia.

She was born Oct. 20, 1936, at Aberdeen to J. Megler and Lillian D. (Graham) Girard. She was raised in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1954. She attended Grays Harbor College for one year.

On Sept. 10, 1955, she married Glen D. Boley at Aberdeen. He survives at the family home.

Mrs. Boley was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at Aberdeen. She was involved in the Grays Harbor Saddle Club. The couple moved to Tumwater where they became involved in the Capital Riders and the Thurston County Sheriff's Posse. In 1964 they moved to Elma and raised ponies for their sons to ride. They helped to organize the Grays Harbor Riding and Racing Association later named the Maverick Riders.

Mrs. Boley was also involved in the Southwest Washington Arabian Horse Association and the Fiesta Arabian Horse Show at the fair at Chehalis. In 1967 the couple helped to start the Ridge Riders 4-H Club and Mrs. Boley became involved in the Grays Harbor County Fair, later becoming the 4-H Horse Superintendent.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her father, of Woodburn, Ore.; four sons, Gaylon, Gregory, Marc and Lynn, all of Elma; a brother, Jon Girard of Eagle River, Alaska; a sister, Rena K. Girard of Fircrest, nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds Pavilion.
