JOHN GEORGE GIRARD, HOQUIAM PIONEER, PASSES

HOQUIAM, WA. November 21, 1944---John George "Jack" Girard, 58, a native of Hoquiam, died last night at his home, 2209 Simpson Avenue, Hoquiam, after a short illness.

Born February 8, 1886, Girard had lived here all his life. He was a graduate of Hoquiam High School and a member of the first Hoquiam high school basketball team. An active sports fan, his presence was always noted at school athletic events.

Mr. Girard was a trustee of the Pacific Lumber Inspectors Bureau, and was active in lumber circles. He served two terms as president of Hoquiam Eagles lodge and was an ardent worker for that order.

Survivors are his wife, Daisy Malvina; two daughters, Mrs. Hawtry (Leona) Williams and Mrs. Harold (Virginia) Wilson, both of Hoquiam; three sons, J. Megler and Merle LeRoy of Hoquiam, and Sgt. John Gerald Girard with the army in England; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mina B. Parker, Hoquiam, and two brothers, Stephen A. Girard of Hoquiam and Alexander C. Girard of Seattle. A foster son, Andrew Hines, raised by the Girard family, is at sea with the army transport service.
