The Hangman Page - Part 1!

- last updated June 12th 2001

Psychology lessons for the last two years have been pretty much incomprehensible to me, and my learning has happened really only because I did background reading. Having said that, I'm not particularly pleased with the way the exams went, but the fact remains that for much of the Psychology lessons my friend Peter and I attended, we spent a fair bit of time playing various games. Some of these may be detailed in a future article which I'm planning - Fun Things To Do In A Psychology Lesson - but for now, I'll satisfy you with Hangman.

Hangman is a truly wonderful game, for those of you who don't know. One person thinks of a word, writes down as many dashes as there are letters in the word, and the other person guesses letters until they get the whole word. Hence, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ could be 'tongues'. When there is more than one word in the phrase, words are separated with a dash. Thus, _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _ could be 'good evening'.

Peter and I discovered that Hangman is even more fun when words which do not genuinely exist are made up, or nonsensical phrases are used. It adds an element of challenge.

And here, for posterity, are all the Hangmans (Hangmen?) that we came up with over the last two years. I put them up mainly because I'm fairly certain I'll one day lose this sheaf of paper, and some of the things in it are too amusing to lose. Plus, of course, if you ever want a really good word, guaranteed to secure victory, to use in Hangman, now you know where to come!

Here are the words. We will start with a random selection, and proceed onto ones that can be categorised later.
