Dæg's Bio

Dæg welcomes the Vanir to Harvest 1999

Howdy..

My name is Dæg (pronounced 'Day'). I've been heathen for some years now, having 'come home' as it were from Christianity. I was serious about being a christian, at one point lived in a monastery at Big Sur, California, and was real close to taking vows. These days I take my heathenry pretty seriously too.

For a very long time I thought I was the only heathen in the world. It was only a year and a half ago, or so, that I was web searching for a poem called 'Thong of Thor'.when I stumbled across Thunderhall Way, a bunch of Thor devotees over in England. Whee! I followed a bunch of links and eventually found some heathens right here in Houston, Irmin's Way Kindred, which I promptly joined. With them I contunued my studies (Religion was my major) and was ordained as a Goði at Midsummer 2000. After Ostara 2001 I founded Heathen Hearth along with some other former members of Irmin's Way to meet the particular needs of Vanatruar living south of Houston.

I'm folkish enough to think that a Japanese guy should check out Shinto before deciding he is a heathen, but inclusive enough to welcome him at sumble anyway, and not be displeased if he happens to hail a Japanese folk goddess.. or a Norse one. My heathenry stems from who I am, from my family and my ancestors, both recent and remote. My ancestry is overwhelmingly (West) Saxon, with enough Welsh and Irish to stir something in me when I hear someone strangling a bagpipe. I am heathen because it makes perfect sense to me that I should be. I am dedicated to the Vanir twins, Freyr and Freyja.

I'm a fishmonger by trade; ornamental fish, not food. If I had a patch of land I would be a farmer. I come from a long line of farmers. I grow a mean habanero. I brew a strong mead.

I have a web-radio program featuring Scandinavian folk music, which you can check out by clicking on the grapic below:

Politically speaking I'm an anarchist of the small-mouth variety. I don't have any desire to overthrow anything. I'm content to ignore the 'System' as best I can, and let it collapse on its own decay. I'm not in any particular hurry. My freedom is a condition of my existence, not a guarantee from any external force.

Do you want to know more, or what?
