In the middle part of the twenty-first century the various Earth governments became aware of the fact that some individuals were showing measurable telepathic skills. In most cases these governing bodies kept this fact from the masses. Instead they convinced these individuals to join their most elite military units. The telepaths, afraid of the possibility of witch hunts, were pleased at the opportunity. As time passed the secret was revealed anyway, but by then the Earth was ruled by a central government.
Psi Corps was born, but those individuals that were both from military families and willing to serve in the military themselves were excluded from having to join. Since these people were descended from the first telepaths they generally had stronger Psi abilities. As time passed into the twenty-second century there developed a rivalry between these two groups. One, the Psi Corps, trying to emulate the military-like discipline of the other group; and the original telepaths developing into almost a warrior caste.
Psi Corps lacking the general Psi strength of their brethren began to loot the human population for recruits. They stole children from parents, parents from children, entire families disappeared overnight. They were ruthless in their 'recruiting'. Even their own members were not immune to their cruelty. Telepaths were bred like livestock. Family ties were not allowed. After mothering a child a woman was soon to learn that she would most likely never see her offspring again. Emotional involvement was frowned upon, and loving relationships were split so that the individuals could be bred with others that would result in the strongest possible Psi level in offspring. Yes if the Corps is mother and the Corps is father, then God have mercy on their children.
The other telepaths in contrast had very strong family roots. Children were often raised by their grandparents instead of their parents, but they were at least with a family that cared for them. At the end of the twenty-second century these telepaths happened upon a habitable world outside of traveled space. Afraid of being forced to assimilated into Psi Corps, they soon colonised this world. They called their colony Jamestown, after the early American colony. Over time though the colonists shortened the name to Jimtown.
As the first generation born on the colony matured, the new inhabitants realised that the environment of the planet had somehow changed the very structure of their Psi gifts. The females remained the same but the males were unable to use their gift. However it gave the men shields that were almost impossible to penetrate. It seemed that only a female telepath from their own colony could read their minds.
After this was discovered by Psi Corps the Corp began to kidnap various members of Jimtown's various Special Forces. One of the first of the kidnappings was Bria Newton, a high P12, possibly even a P13, and her daughter Lisa, who was thought to be even stronger than her mother. Psi Cops (called dogs by we colonists, because of the 'bloodhound' units) Alfred Bester and Byron Gordon supervised the 'debriefing'. The Psi Dogs used a combination of Sleepers and Dust to drive the pregnant (with a second child) woman mad.
Her husband Derrick, being the testosterone poisoned idiot that he was (at least that was how mom always told it), attacked the base on Syria Plainum alone. He was captured, giving Psi Corps what they really wanted, four potential specimens to test their theories on.
Bria Newton gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Upon testing it was established that he was a strong P12 and possibly a stable telekinetic.
Part of Bria's conditioning was to train her to enter her husband's mind and tear down his shields from the inside. During the process something unexpected happened. The continuous deep scans, along with the already deep emotional bond between them, caused an addiction to develop between them. A sane man and a crazy woman found themselves as addicted to each other as a junkie was to their next fix. At first this might not seem so bad, but just being in different rooms was enough to cause them physical pain. Bester, being the Dog that he was, took full advantage of this to further torture the couple.
While testing the son of Bria and Derrick, Byron accidentally killed the boy. The combination of her grief, rage, and insanity caused Bria to accidentally kill their daughter. Derrick, discovering this through his 'addiction' to his own wife, was shocked into a sort of remission of his spousal addiction. He surprised his guards, and was able to escape, though forced to kill two guards on his way out.
Jenn and Stephanie Newton, Derrick's sisters, had been patrolling the area searching for their missing family members. When they found Derrick he had most of Psi Corps local security force on his tail. In the battle four more Psi Cops were killed. Bester placed all of these deaths on Derrick's head and then labeled him the Psi Cop Assassin to give his men more incentive to capture him.
Byron, fearing Bester's wrath, escaped Syria Plainum and turned rouge. Turned away by Psi Corps and afraid of the colonists Byron developed his own group of rogues hoping to hide behind them to protect his own skin.
Derrick, after his escape, was taken to Minbar to be treated by the best telepaths of both the Colonists and the Minbari. After his recovery both he and his sisters followed the lead of so many other Colonists and joined the Rangers. They traveled to Zagros 7 to be trained by a Human Ranger that was already becoming a legend, Marcus Cole.
When their training was almost finished the outpost was blockaded first by the Centauri then by the Shadows and though Derrick volunteered, it was Marcus Cole that risked a fate worse than death by going to Babylon 5 to seek aid. John Sheridan in his first mission aboard the Whitestar managed to save them. Upon their escape Marcus returned with Delenn to serve as her liaison to the Rangers. Jenn and Steph went home to Jimtown to do a little recruiting. However Derrick looked again to Syria Plainum and the only real connection he had with life. Psi Corps had all of Mars on alert for the Ranger and caught him almost as soon as he landed. The woman they brought him to was his own wife. Stronger, crueler, more evil, but still addicted to her husband. This is their story, the story of rape, torture, and revenge that will live forever in the annals of Jimtown history.
My name is Jonathon Newton and this is the story of my parents and the parents of my wife, Talia Cole. Mostly though this is the story of how and why my father went Old Testament on the Psi Corps. You know - an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
