Feeding time in a household of 11 cats means one cat must be fed in round bowls because it won't eat from a square one, another won't eat unless i has been brushed first, another eats only in the family room, while another dines only in the living room, and yet another requires the owner to hunt for him when it's time to eat.
According to feline nutritionists and behaviorists, this woman doesn't have finicky cats; she has smart cats that have trained her well.
Certainly cats have a reputation for being finicky, but if you ask animal care experts if it is deserved, thier answers range from "no" to "it depends." Take for example Tony Buffington, D.V.M., Ph.D., D.A.C.V.N., professor of clinical nutrition at The Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Buffington says that a cat that must subsist on what it can find in the wild must kill at least 10 to 12 mice a day because one mouse only has 30 calories. Since killing a dozen mice a day doesn't seem likely, cats therefore must be willing to eat anything else they can find with some nitritional value. "Logically it doesn't make sense that they would be neophobic (finicky)," he says.
