Greetings and Salutations!!
My name is Dorothy, and I am Elizabeth Parker's head guardian angel. I have worked very hard to obtain my position of HGA, and Elizabeth is my first charge since my promotion. She is a lovely girl: smart, kind, honorable, and can be counted on in a crisis. My charge can think quickly on her feet, a trait I have always admired. In short, she reminds me of myself!
She never gets into any trouble. Well, hardly any trouble. She has a rather witty sense of humor, which has gotten her into hot water a time or two, but then again no one's perfect! Praise the Lord, or I'd be out of a job and doing … well, have you ever wondered about all the possible jobs in Heaven? No??!! Allow me to educate you. Heavenly chorus, Heavenly Orchestra, Heavenly Cooks, Heavenly Robe Makers, (all the usual stuff that bores a woman like me to tears). For the more creative angels, there's the Division of Body Parts and Personalities. When I first got to Heaven and was an AIT, I was assigned to the DBPP, and what a disaster that was! I was in charge of making ears, and I could never get them to come out right. If you've got a pair of mismatched ears, you were probably issued a set of mine. Apologies, but that was just not the job for me! Being a guardian angel fits my personality to a T. Why? Let me tell you a little bit about my earthly self.
I was the daughter of a doctor in the late 1800's. My father's practice area covered the region in North America called Dallas, Texas today. When I was a teenager, Daddy took on an apprentice of sorts. This was back in the days when there was little schooling for doctors, and certainly no such thing as residencies. The apprentice's name was James Roberts. Though he walked with a slight limp from a farming accident, he held himself with such dignity that no one ever accused him of being a cripple. James had dark hair and light eyes, and as I watched him work with Daddy's patients, I fell in love with him. We married and eventually moved west. I had a lot of freedom being a doctor's wife because James was seldom at home. Being in charge suited me, and that's probably the reason why I'm a HGA now.
I like to think I'm a fair boss. At least I hope so. I have to struggle to keep my dry sense of humor under control, but it slips out sometimes. The Angels In Training (AITs) under me are a good group, if a little small. When you have such an upstanding charge, there really isn't much need for a lot of angels. But all that is going to change, and soon.
I have received official notice that Elizabeth Parker's life is about to be turned upside down and nothing will be the same after it. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. Quite the contrary. She's about to meet her other half. Maxwell Evans. I just hope this young woman can learn to trust her heart over her head. If she doesn't, I'll have failed her. But don't worry. I'm not about to let that happen. Elizabeth is in for the ride of her life. One that we all want to take. The journey to love.
Angel Dorothy
