Started in Spring 2000, this co-op is educating girls in the wisdom of Proverbs 31 using the Far Above Rubies unit study curriculum as a framework and guideline.
In the 2000-2001 school year, we had seven middle school girls who have studied units on:
- Virtue
- Creation
- Digestive System
- Ancient (Bible) Civilization
- Hebrew Roots
- Rubies, Rocks & Minerals
- Courtship & Marriage
- Fabric & Sewing
- Ancient Egypt
- Slavery
- Diligent Work
- Government
- Personal Economics
- Sheep
In the 2001-2002 school year, we will have six girls. It was unfortunate that one person had to drop, but we found out that an even number works better for teams (like study or debate.)
We meet for a full day (4.5 hours) once a week--Tuesday works best for us. The families (mothers) rotate facilitating the units (which are actually sub-units of the FAR curriculum.)
The girls study each sub-unit for two full weeks, but the time is divided over three week span.
- We start a unit after lunch, giving us the first half day. Each unit starts with an "Excite" activity--something three dimensional to get the girls enthused about the upcoming study.
- We leave that afternoon with assignments to be completed by the next week.
- The next time we meet is our full day study, beginning first thing in the morning and picking up after lunch.
- Again, we leave in the afternoon with assignments to be completed by the next week. We will begin to finish our notebooks and wrap up our assgnments and projects.
- The morning or the third week of study, we complete the sub-unit by giving presentations.
- After lunch of the same third week, we begin a new unit with a new "excite" lesson.
