A New Hope

"Well, well, well...what do we have here?" -Those were my exact words, or thoughts, whatever, as I was driving home from school towards the end of February. I pass South Shore Chrysler-Plymouth everytime I get off route 95 coming back from school. I've been working full time to save up for the new Jeep so I've been home alot. SSCP always has a few Jeeps. Usually newer Cherokees and TJ's. I went and looked there over last summer with my parents because they were thinking about getting a Cherokee. For the most part, I just looked, stared and drooled a little bit at the nice new Jeeps. But then I saw it. A newer YJ Wrangler. I had no intention of buying it because it was gonna cost me my life in dollarage but no harm in looking. Upon closer inspection I found out that it was a 1995 Rio Grande - 2.5L I-4, P215's, cloth interior, 5 sp, with just over 70k miles. The dealer scared the shit out of me because I didn't think anyone would be there at 8 in the morning on a holiday but he asked if I wanted to drive it..."Sure" - hehehe. It drove great. It had way more power than my first 4 banger CJ and it rode unbelievable compared to my CJs. Fuel injection was luxury - same with the cloth seats. I got back and I was really happy with it - the dealer informed me of a few not-so-obvious features: new rear tires, exhaust and clutch. Cool, but anyway, time to return to reality, right? Apparently not. The price of the Jeep was posted on the windshield but he quoted me for $7500. I know Jeep prices pretty well and considering the near perfect condition that this one was in, it was a good price. I put the paper work through for the credit and by some miracle I was approved. The payments and insurance are killing me but what the hell, I have a Jeep again!! What sucks though is that my friend Hall sold his YJ Sahara so out Jeep population is shrinking pretty damn fast...Oh well, I'm not gonna sell out!! The Jeep is running great and I've had it for exactly 2 weeks today (March 14). Gas mileage is at about 18 which is pretty good I guess. The only mods I've done so far have been pretty lame but here they are:

1)installed the add-a-trunk (ghetto-style)
2)installed door sill protectors that I had bought for the second CJ
3)Added a full carpet interior

Tomorrow I'm going down to Hall's to get the 30's that he has from his old cherokee. The CD player is going in hopefully too. I have my tow hooks and 2 KC's to put on when I have a free day too so then Jeep will be well on its way to being BUILT by this summer. When I actually have some money again she'll be a beast, no doubt.

Til next time,
Jay
