Finally, the Jeep was smoking so badly that I was forced to take it to a mechanic. A few days later he called and told me it was beyond repair but he could send it to a friend of his to look at it. I said, "Sure" Why the hell not, right? So the Jeep got towed to the next mechanic and this friend of his informed me that all but 2 of the body mounts were knocked off and one of the engine mounts was toast. The Jeep got towed to my uncle's autmotive store down the street to sit until I could decide what to do with it.
When the black Jeep first died back in December, I had all these plans to strip it down and build it back up to be the an awesome rockcrawler/street machine. Unfortunately, it never happened. Between lack of mechanical experience and, more importantly, lack of cash, the "Supreme" Jeep never materialized. The Jeep sat in my uncle's parking lot for about 5 months because my parents planned to donate it for a tax deduction.
In the meantime, my friend Hall had bought his own CJ. On Christmas Eve he and JT drove up to New Hampshire to buy a 1984 CJ-7 with a Chevy 350. He paid $2000 for it and I think he got a pretty good deal. In March he decided to sell it because he wanted a Wrangler with FI. I saw my opportunity and offered to buy it off him by the summer.
While I was saving, Hall and I worked on the new CJ. Hall bolted down the radiator, changed the accelerator cable and did a few other things. We took a trip down to my old Jeep and took all the new hinges and everything I had bought for it. The old Jeep now looked absolutely pitiful. I'll try to get a picture of it on here ASAP. The new CJ had these weird "custom" seats that were 2 different heights so we switched those with my Jeep seats. We also took the rear taillights, side markers, haedlight retainers, wiper motor...EVERYTHING WORTH MONEY. The new CJ was looking awesome now.
Finally in May I had saved enough to buy the Jeep. It had its problems tho and I wasn't sure if I could drive it home or not. The clutch was going and the brakes were horrible. Hall and I managed to bleed the brakes sso at least I could stop. I decided that I could drive it but we'd have to becareful. We made the trip back to my house okay and I had my new Jeep.
Here's what I started with:
1984 CJ-7 body
Early 80's Chevy 350 V8 (we're not sure of the year)
Rusty AR outlaws
Black hardtop and red hard doors that wouldn't close
Dual exhaust, headers w/ no cats
32's out back, 31's up front
Lots and lots of SS and chrome!
