Megadeth bootlegs

Basic Dreams
Hammersmith Odeon, London, UK, Sept. 30, 1992
Backstage BKCD 025
65:12
1. (Intro)/Holy Wars/The Punishment Due [sic]
2. Skin O My Teeth [sic]
3. Wake Up Dead
4. Hangar 18
5. Foreclosure Of A Dream
6. Contdown Of Extinction [sic]
7. Lucretia
8. Sweating Bullets
9. In My Darkest Hours [sic]
10. Tornado Of Souls
11. Ashes In Your Mouth
12. Symphony Of Destruction
13. Peace Sells
14. Anarchy In The U.K. (Sex Pistols cover)

No recording information is given on the bootleg. There is apparently another Megadeth bootleg called "Europe 1993" which is exactly the same as "Basic Dreams," minus the intro music.

This show was videotaped and there are some DVD bootlegs of it which included interview segments. Some dubs of this same gig have these interview segments breaking up the show. As of yet, I haven't seen any real CDs with the interview bits on them.

Dave forgets to sing the "It gives me a migraine..." line from "Sweating Bullets." The crowd pretty much sings all the verses to "In My Darkest Hour" alone.

Recording quality-wise, a good soundboard show, but a bit unenthusiastic. There is absolutely NO stage banger or song introductions except for Dave telling the crowd to sing during the last two songs.

Suicide Solution
Stadio delle Alpi, Turin, Italy, June 22, 1993
Razor's Edge RZCD 0008
56:11
1. Holy Wars
2. The Punishment Due
3. Skin O'My Teeth
4. Wake Up Dead
5. Countdown To Extinction
6. Sweating Bullets
7. In My Darkest Hours [sic]
8. The Conjuring
9. Ashes In Your Mouth
10. Symphony Of Destruction
11. Peace Sells [sic]
12. Anarchy In The U.K. (Sex Pistols cover)

Bootleg has no recording/location info. It's from a show with Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies, The Cult, and Extrema (whose live mCD is from this show, I believe).

Does anyone happen to know where the intro music/sound effect is from?

Technically I'm not sure if they could ever be considered seperate or not, but "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" is divided as you would expect, with track 2 starting around the "Upon my podium..." part.

This is a bad audience recording. The sound is cavernous and distant, and then you have the annoyance of nonstop crowd noise over the whole thing. Nothing special about the set and as usual, Mustaine doesn't talk a whole lot. For die-hards only.

No specific date/location information is mentioned on the bootleg except for "recorded live 1993."

Both shows are incomplete. The Milton Keynes show is a bit weird, as I assume it wasn't just the tracks above, but I have never, ever seen a more complete version of the show correctly listed on a bootleg or audio trader list. All the versions with more tracks I've seen have been mistakes where extra tracks from a different source are wrongly assumed to also be from the Milton Keynes show. As you can see from the "Basic Dreams" bootleg above, the Hammersmith show is incomplete--I couldn't hear any kind of audible break between "Lucretia" and "Tornado of Souls" though, so the editing was very good.

The Milton Keynes show is very well known, as it was played with Metallica and Diamond Head. Diamond Head's "Evil Live" is sourced from this same gig. Mustaine addresses playing with Metallica ("...10 years of bullshit is over...") in the stage banter before "Liar." It sounds like there was some doctoring to the stage banter, because you can hear recording jumps whenever Mustaine says an expletive. So the show was probably sourced from a radio broadcast or something similar and it was censored, but someone fixed that with another copy of the show.

If the stage banter is accurate, the '93 show is the first time Megadeth played "Angry Again" live.

Both sections of the bootleg (track 8 and track 17) fade out.

Although there are several bootlegs which have one of these two shows and various extra tracks from different sources, the exact same material is on the "Punishment is Due" bootleg, which has less generic but also less professional looking inserts, and on the "Live Anarchy In London" bootleg, although on the latter the order of the two parts is switched. The 16-track "Living of the Megadeth" includes the same material except for the Sex Pistols cover.

While this is an excellent boot soundwise, since the whole Hammersmith show is available elsewhere and both shows are on other bootlegs with other stuff, it's not that great for Megadeth collectors. However, in terms of volume, this and the other bootlegs that combine the Milton Keynes/Hammersmith shows do have more real live material than most of the other bootlegs with just one of the shows (and other material) on them.

No date or location info is given on the bootleg at all. The track time given for track 9 and the total track time on the back insert are off by about 7 minutes.

Someone else may be able to clarify this further, or correct me, but from what I understand, "Arena Spettacoli" is literally "arena of shows." So it's a more general term, as opposed to an arena formally named "Spettacoli." Apparently, like all of the Italian Monsters of Rock fests, the show coincides with the Festa de l'Unità celebrations.

The sound drops out for a second (sounds like a recording mic problem) at 0:59 of track 1. During the first 2 tracks you can hear the recorder fiddling a lot with the volume, and there are pretty significant volume boosts at 1:59 of track 1, and 1:00 of track 2.

The sound quality is pretty atrocious, although it's listenable if you turn up the volume, and it gets a little better after the first 2 tracks. The main problem isn't the clarity, but the sound is very cavernous. In addition, it's an audience recording, and the crowd talks and sings along nonstop throughout the show. Soundboard audio for this show exists, but this is the only pro-bootleg of this gig I've seen.
