A Note About Pentecost
God works in remarkable ways. Following the giving of the Torah on Shavuot(Pentecost) Moses went up Mt. Sinai to meet with God and receive the Ten Conunandments written on two tablets of stone. When he returned forty days later he found the children of Israel dancing naked around the golden calf.
Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, Who is on the LORDs side? let him come unto me. and all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. ...
And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
(Ex. 32:26,28)
Now, change the scene to the same day many centuries later.
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come,...
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
(Acts 2:1,41)
The three thousand that were lost on that frrst day of Pentecost were replaced by the three thousand that were saved on the latter day of Pentecost.
The Red Moon
A friend sent us a color copy of the cover from the May/June issue of a magazine called A Word from Jerusalem. It shows three different photographic views, taken through a telescope, of the red moon lnnar eclipse on the eve of Passover in Jerusalem. The largest of the three photos shows a bright red moon. The red color appears during the time of the complete blackout of the moon during a total lunar eclipse and is caused by a faint red light that is refracted by the earths atmosphere, which filters out the blue rays.
A
lunar eclipse only appears when the moon is full. The Passover
eclipse was not visible in the United States but could be seen
over much of Asia and the Middle East. Another full lunar eclipse
will occur the eve of the first day of Sukkot (The Feast
of Tabernacles). It too, will be visible from Jerusalem.
Is there
any significance to the fact that two full lunar eclipses will be
seen this year in Jerusalem on two very special Holydays? We
cannot say for sure, but it should cause all of us to pause and
contemplate where we might be in the history of the earth.
The
scriptures do mention a red moon;
And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
(Rev. 6:12)The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
(Joel 2:31)
This
passage from Joel was quoted by Peter when he gave his first
sermon on the Day of Pentecost.
It seems
apparent that the red moon mentioned in these scriptures
will be visible to the naked eye by most, if not all, people on
the earth. Its fulfillment will not require telescopes to see the
red color. Nevertheless, it would seem prudent that
all of us continue to watch and, be like Yeshuas mother
Miriam (Mary):
But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
(Luke 2:19)
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee,
The LORD make his face to shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up His Countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
