(A booming voice of death and decay utters forth) "Why do you come?"
You kneel, the sweat drips from your brow, the stones bite at your knees. Despite knowing well how the Dark Lord fills his ranks, you answer: "I come to serve."
(Bones creak, crip ancient cloth bends. He leans forward, glaring) "And how could you serve?"
(Out of the pack you grab your pick-axe near the head. Echoes fill the hall with the sound of a shaft connecting with stone. They die to the thump of a thick book falling next to the axe. You look up expectantly.)
(Gonthubune leans back and smiles, a cold and knowing smile) "You will need much more then that for where you are going."
Guided to the edge of the realm by an old withered man, you re-memorize the books that have yet to yeild meaning. As you reach the border you are given a map, and as you fumble with your rings he tell you not to use them till needed. To your question of food he hands you his staff. As you war with deduction and reason to the purpose of this stick, the old man lays his palm to the dirt near the side of the road and hums. To your surprise a grey sack of mouldering flesh crawls out and gazes around out of empty sockets.
"Meet your new best friend" laughs the old man as he heads down the long black road to his home. Your route is a more curious one, seeing as you are unsure wheter you are leading, or being herded by, your only friend.
Necromancer:
Hard to start, hard to advance, and hard to live as. They start out with some nice toys, but low stats. They would use magic more, but the 3 standard spells are beyond reach of the new gravediggers. The necromancer's main gig is to create an undead hoard to do the fighting for him. However, you can't collect the kills, and therefore the experience, from what your pets take down. Most likely a potent force in the lower levels, I've never gotten there.
Things all Gravedigger need know:
-Your technique Raise Zombie turns corpses into slow ambling pets, so it won't save your life, but it good after the battle.
-That ghoul is slow and stupid, but he's your main fighting force right now.
-Remember that rings make you hungry. Use them sparingly. You will have other uses for the food you find.
-Don't be afraid to use that wand of draining. The dead can't take it with them. (unless you're useing them to shoplift some stuff out of a store.)
