Roleplaying Games?

RPG is an acronym for Role Playing Game. Roleplaying is a form of acting in which a person has to act out the role of a particular character. Roleplaying is often used in various psychological groups to get ideas across.
eg.(in a drugs and alcohol awareness class: one person acts out the drunk 12 year old and the other acts out the concerned parent).

The Roleplaying games I'm talking about involve a reasonable amount of talking but not really any actual acting. You try to say the things you can imagine your character saying given the circumstances but everything your character actually does is just imagined or possibly represented with miniatures.
Most fantasy style Roleplaying games involve a set of rules, where many things you do require the rolling of dice. Although you talk to other characters in the game, you usually(we hope) roll dice if you want to see if you can beat them into unconsciousness with a club.

D&D has a relatively large system of rules, when you make a character, as well as deciding on a personality you have to figure out his or her statistics.
This involves rolling dice to find out how strong, dextrous, fit and tough he or she is. Your character will also have various statistics that decide how good he or she is at attacking someone and defending themselves.
Although this is only a brief and undetailed overview, it does show that a character's ability to fight and acheive various physical feats is all decided by rolling dice and using the rules of the game to figure out the outcome.
