| Part of the assesment for my Negotiated Study was to keep a journal of every session I spent working on this website. Here, you can read my journal. |
| Date: 2nd July |
| Today was my first day on my Negotiated Study. I've choosen to do the Harry Potter books (and possibly the movie) by JK Rowling. Unlike last year, when my study was on paper in a folder, this year's will be a webpage. This lesson was spent signing up for a webpage at Geocities.com, having Mrs. Teirney explain to me the best way to do my webpage and filling out my proposal. I wanted to have the username Hedwig for Harry's owl, but it was already taken, so my name is Hedwigandharry. I plan do to the front page of the website from Hedwig's point of view, as if she's explaining the site. |

| This lesson was spent on a computer, using Geocities to make the front page to my website. My main colours are black, blue, gold and maroon. It took a lot of time - I wanted font and background options that weren't readily available, so I had to import them from other applications, which caused colour and size distortion, but I think it's all finally sorted out. My next computer lesson should be a lot easier. I need to find a small pic of Hedwig (or scan it.) |

| Today I worked in M19 ( a computer room here at Ogilvie) on my characters page. I also searched on the net and found some graphics that will be really useful to my site. My characters page will be very extensive, with profiles on each main character, as well as other characters. I also had to rebuild my main page again, as last lesson a saving accident caused it to be deleted. |

| Today I went to N8 ( another computer lab here at Ogilvie ) and signed up for a poll to put on my webpage. The question is: Do you think the Harry Potter books are a bad influence on younger readers, because I have heard of and read reports on people who don't like the books and don't let their kids read them because of a 'violent content' . Once reads of my site post their opinion, they can read my essay on the topic. I will be really interested to see the results of this poll. |

| Today I worked more on my characters page, and got Voldemort, Dumbledore, Snape and Neville done. I also searched for information on JK Rowling an came across the script of a Yahoo! chat she had been in with her fans. She sounds really nice - she made a comment on how an eight year old boy had asked her about the title of her new book ( the fifth book of the Harry Potter series) and although she wasn't supposed to tell anyone anything about it, she 'couldn't resist those big brown eyes' and told him the title ( Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.) |

| After school this afternoon, I had access to my dad's computer, so I spent a few hours on my website. First, I changed the entire lay-out of almost every page - I wasn't happy with the old lay-out, and the new gold bars and the picture of Hedwig looks a lot better in my opinion. I also started the bio on JK Rowling, and the books page. I added links to the Quiz Site JK Rowling Quiz ( thankyou, Mrs. Teirney, for the link!) and to Angus and Robertson. Angus and Robertson is one of the bookstores in the city that I live, so I decided to link to their online store so readers of my site interested in the books could buy them online. I also tried to fix a counter to the front page of my website, counting down to the release of the Harry Potter movie in Australia, but I couldn't get the correct settings. I decided to wait till I could ask Mrs. Teirney about it. |
