Quidditch:
The most popular sport in the wizarding world. PLayed on a field much like that of football, with two large golden hoops on top of long poles on either end of the field (goalposts), players fly broomsticks while playing. The object of the game is to score many points as possible. Four different balls are always on field:
The Quaffle:
Large and red, this ball is thrown back and forth between playes called Chasers (three chasers to a team), and scores ten points if passed through that team's goalpost. Each team also has a Keeper, a player who guards the other team's goalpost and tries to stop them from scoring.
The Bludgers:
Slightly smaller than the Quaffle and jet black, the purpose of the two Bludgers is to fly around at high speeds and attempt to knock the players from their broomsticks. Each team has two Beaters, who have clubs for beating the Bludgers away from their own teammates and towards those of the other team.
The Golden Snitch:
Tiny, golden and with wings, the fast-flying Snitch zooms mostly un-noticed through the Quidditch game. The snitch is worth 150 points, however, to the team that catches it. Each team has a Seeker, a player whose job it is to search for the Snitch, while avoiding other teammates and Bludgers. No other play can catch the snitch.
Any game of Quidditch does not end until the Golden Snitch has been caught by either team's Seeker. This means that a game can go on for months. Quidditch is an international sporting pastime for Wizards and Witches, with each country represented by a national team.
