Mock Trial – Character Sketch

I am a fighter pilot who goes by the name of Brit Ish. I was born in a small town outside or England. I grew up with six brothers and sisters, I am the oldest. My mom stayed at home with the children, with the help of my grandmother. My father was a naval man, who controlled the British naval fleet. I unfortunately don’t have much of a social, but all of my siblings are married.

Before I left to fight, I received a note from the only woman that I ever cared about, Mary Ellen. She told me about her two-year old daughter, Emma , which I soon found out was my child as well. Mary Ellen and I grew up together, but it wasn’t until our last year of schooling that we became friends and soon more then friends. However, all good things come to an end, after her 18th birthday she moved away to the United States of America, where she was supposed to create a new life for herself

I learned to fly when I was six, but when I was ten I crashed on take off and I didn’t fly for nine years. When Germany started to attack Europe and the navy was recruiting new pilots, I decided to forget my fear and do all I can to help defeat Germany.

Pretrial Reflection

This case isn’t much news to me, because in a way I’ve already broken the rules. I read about it in yesterday’s paper. However, I came across purely by coincidence. I was eating my chocolate milk and morning omelet, looking for the comics, and all of a sudden I was face to face with case on hand and the charges against Jack. In the paper it explained what happened, what the charges were, who were the eyewitnesses, just about everything that there is about the situation.

I know as a juror I’m not supposed to really know about the case, so I won’t form an opinion about it. However, as hard as I try, I can’t help but think of the case and form an opinion about it. Therefore I am kind of biased about all of this in that I am in favor of the prosecutors decision. I think that Jack, the person on trial, is guilty in all of the charges that are put on Jack. However, even though I am in favor of the prosecution, I will still listen to both sides, so it is still up in the air, because my mind can be changed. I’ve spent most of the last few years at war and I have seen the cruel and disturbed behaviors of men and knowing that kids twelve and younger act the same way, makes me feel sorry for everyone on earth.

Post Trial

This last trial has gone through all types of different scenarios with faulty witnesses and a point where havoc wreaked the courtroom. The People vs. Jack Merridew from the beginning in my opinion was an open shut case with Jack being guilty on all charges, but the both the prosecution and defendants made many good points through out the trial.

The Defensive lawyers could have had a good case, but I don’t think they prepared enough they seemed to object too practically everything the prosecution would say. The Defendants had three key witnesses, Jack, a Harvard Physiologists, and Roger. However, two of these three turned into a disappointment from my opinion. Jack lied on the stand, by contradicting himself in a previous statement that was said the defendants. The Harvard Physiologists didn’t seem to have a mind of his own with the Defendants feeding her answers while she was on the stand. The one witness that seemed to come through for them was Roger. He brought up the point that boys had the capability of doing everything they did without the leadership of Jack. The Defendants fell short in proving their client innocent after their opening statement was that everyone on the island was guilty including Jack himself.

The Prosecution on the other hand seemed to deliver fact after fact with reason to how Jack was a bigger factor in the deaths of Piggy and Simon then thought of. The Prosecution had 5 witnesses Ralph, Simon, Piggy, the Naval Pilot, and SamnEric. The four boys all shared the same compelling facts of how Jack was the first to leave Ralph’s group and the one who instructed his followers to "kill the beast", which soon was identified as Simon. The Naval Pilot described what he saw when he arrived on the island. He said he saw one boy being chased by other boys who had a form of face paint on, holding sharp wooden spears, and screaming. The Prosecution unlike the Defense gave a compelling closing statement, which showed not only what had been shown through out the trial, but it showed what man is shown to do when parted from civilization.

My opinion from the beginning was that Jack was guilty, but I kept it a must to not make up my mind until the trial was over. I did keep this promise and listened to every lawyer, every witness, and my fellow jurors. The fellow jurors were easy to work with, we helped each other when something was unclear. The final outcome of the trial was that Jack was guilty, which was my original opinion and also how the other jurors felt as well.
