DEFINITION
Being called names is the way of life for a kid. For me it was nothing, because I would just let it role off my shoulder and think nothing of it. But thinking nothing of it is the problem. If you ever take those next few seconds just to think about what it really means. I would never think about it, until a few days ago when this girl in my school called me a phony. In my life I’ve been called a lot of things, but not a phony. Well, I would normally just think nothing of it and have a comeback, but not this time.
I started to think about this whole situation and about what the word phony really means. When a person first hears it, they normally think that they are just being called a fake, someone who pretends, and someone whose lien. I then began to think of what makes someone a phony. Someone who lies about who they are and pretends to be something they aren’t. Breaking down the common grounds of the word puts a new perspective on it and what you think of when you are called it.
Having the meaning of the word, I couldn’t help but think of phony’s that we as people see during the day. For example, politicians fit the descriptions of a phony. Because they say they care about the people and the needs of the people, but in reality they only care about the votes they get not the people behind the votes, because after they elect him or her to an office they are forgotten. Being a phony isn’t on any one person to then list, but when it comes down to it people end up phonies. If a person gets a nose job then they are lien who they are, they are pretending to be someone they aren’t and trying to pass a fake nose off as a real one.
Therefore a pony is a man or woman who will lie about themselves, who will pretend to be someone that they aren’t, and above all of these a fake. To some extent we all have little phonies in ourselves, but acknowledge it and try to control it. Unlike a phony who doesn’t seem to grasp the idea that what he or she is doing isn’t who they are.
