The Return of Star Wars - Part One
By Geoffrey Foster

Everywhere you go these days you are likely to see
some kind of promotion for the new Star Wars movie. If your not a fan, you probably don't give a shit, but if you are, your likely to be spending a lot of time devoted to anything that has to do with the films.
And yes, you guessed it, I'm one of those people.
First of all, I'm not a fan of the obsessive variety. I've seen all the movies more times than I can count, in the theater and on video. When I watch Star Wars
in the theater, I do not arrive dressed up as a Jedi or a Storm Trooper. I do not spend hours reading the books or bore my friends waxing intellectual about Star Wars lore. I am a fan who pays to watch a good movie.
Often several times.
Revenge of the Sith is a movie I am looking forward to seeing. Every Star Wars fan is. This is the story that we have all been waiting to see. Vader will be born, Luke and Leia will be born, and the Jedi will fall. Most importantly, this is the last Star Wars movie George Lucas is making.
Revenge of the Sith will be the darkest movie of the six and is even getting a PG-13 rating, most likely for the duel between Obi-wan and Anakin, the end result being the near death of Anakin.
Obi-wan wants to bring Anakin back to the good side, but it's too late for Anakin. He's not coming back for a long time. Obi-wan finds himself fighting for his life and winds up slicing off Anakin's legs.
Anakin falls and lands too near to the lava rivers that snake through their battlefield and bursts into flame.
  In
The Making of Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, which is in bookstores now, there is a photo of Anakin lying beside a molten river, his skin horribly burnt and his clothing partially melted and stuck to his skin. His body is smoking.
Lucas is not holding back. The descent to the dark side for Anakin has always been a violent one, as fans know. But it has always remained in our minds as little more than a vague reference that suggests a violent descent:

"He's more machine now than man, twisted and evil."

Revenge of the Sith is a Tragedy. It is dark and sad.
When The Phantom Menace came out, I, like some other fans, enjoyed it but it found to be a bit too much geared towards children. I have heard that Lucas did that because he knew how dark the trilogy would become. Revenge of the Sith alone is not a descent into darkness, the entire trilogy is.
The Phantom Menace is about a happy and joyful time, with the darkness folded somewhere within.       Attack of the Clones is a blend of both darkness and light, fighting for supremacy.
Revenge of the Sith is the Darkness' victory.
It is the nightfall of a beautiful day,
the twilight of the Jedi.

Quote of the Day
"Oh yeah, I'd choose those over a power tool any day"

Company of Snakes

Yesterday found him stripped and poor,
Tomorrow will find him ready for war,
Hatred for deception can burn like fire
When there is truth
In the company of liars.

The liars come here wearing their masks,
To eat and drink and compliment their host,
But slowly in time their masks will break,
Afraid is the mouse
In the company of snakes.

He has friends who tell him of truth,
He has friends in disguise, just feeding him lies,
The insticts of a snake cannot be tamed,
Foolish are they who play these games.

Yesterday found them dirty and rich,
Tomorrow will find them deep in a ditch,
The time has come to end their greed,
The innocent breathe vengeance
In the company of thieves.
