Our Day In Red Wing

Mommy's friend Lisa and her husband have a boat they dock at Colvill Park in Red Wing, and we spent the afternoon and evening with them. Daddy, Gus, and Zoe went to the water park at Colvill Park with Lisa's husband Darin and their kids Katie and Benny, who are 7 and 5. Katie and Zoe love to play together. The water park was beautiful. There are two big water slides and a kiddie play area, and the shallow end is zero-depth entry--just like a beach. Gus and Zoe took turns going down the twisty yellow slide in a two-seater inner tube with Daddy, and they all went down the purple, covered, tubeless slide, too. Zoe did handstands under water, and Gus was a shark. The weather was great. It was in the upper 70s with a beautiful blue sky containing a few big puffy clouds. Best of all, though, the water was unlike every other public pool Daddy's been in--warm!!
After swimming and sliding, everyone went back to Darin and Lisa's boat to play X-Box, drink pop, and wait for Mommy and Lisa to get back with supper. They brought hot dogs and steaks, which Darin grilled right on the boat. It's a good thing he did, too, because before the steaks were done, the mosquitoes came out, and we had to cast off and head out onto the Mighty Mississippi. We ate steak sandwiches right off the grill and then cruised up to Red Wing (Colvill Park is a little downstream from Red Wing) and looked at Darin's dream boat in one of the marinas there. On the way, we passed a two-masted sailboat anchored just off the Wisconsin side of the river that Daddy would love to have. We found some ducks to feed, watched a beautiful sunset through the clouds that had come during supper, and headed back as dusk approached. Gus got to drive the boat for part of the return journey, and he did quite a good job!
