The capital city of Crete is Irakleon, an attractive mix of new and very old.

The Castle of the Knights, by Kos harbour, is very similar to the Venetian castle in Irakleon.
Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, came from Kos and is supposed to have taught under this tree.
The Asklepion, just outside Kos town, was a hospital.
The Odeon in Kos town is a very well preserved theatre.
