Marie (aka Mary) Breit
The following information is from the 1900 NY State Census
Mary Theis (spelled Ties) lived at 183 West 98th Street NYC
She had been in the US for 10 years (Making her arrival in 1890)
She was born in Germany
She was 45 years of age at the time of the Census (which would have made her year of birth 1855)
She was born in the month of May
She had been married for 25 years (which would have made the year of marriage 1875)
She was married in Germany
She had 6 births and 6 children living** The census also listed her as "M" for married not "W" for widowed, yet George Sr was not listed on this census. It also listed info on her 6 children at the time, which I will give under the listing of each child.
---------------------------------------Marie lived w/her daughter in Boston and that is where she died. Family Lore says that her and George did not get along, that he became grouch and cranky and she left him to live w/her daughter Elizabeth. Later to find out that the reason he might have been so cranky was because he died of stomach cancer, and no one knew he was ill until the day he died.
According to Frances Theis-O'Neil Marie purchased her grave in Calvary Cem in order not to be buried next to her grouchy husband, new info states that George was Lutheran and not Catholic therefore he could not have been buried in Calvary.
