Grandpa "Steely" Phil
Age: 81
Address: The Sunset Arms Boarding House
Pets: Grandpa has a pet pig (and since Arnold lives there, it's his pig too) named Abner. Abner was a wedding present to Arnold's parents who Grandpa almost roasted that night. Other than that, many other various animals fly out of the Boarding House's door whenever it's opened.
Occupation: Owner/Proprietor of the Sunset Arms Boarding House.
Fun Facts: Although he can't get enough of them, raspberries always seem to "flush his system out" if you know what I mean. He often tells Arnold never to eat raspberries, and so far it looks like Arnold has listened. He has a sister named Mitzi who he hadn't spoken to since their dog, Pooter, died in 1927. When Mitzi showed up at the boarding house's door, he tried any way he could to make her want to leave. He has a 'friend' named Jimmy Kafka he constantly competed with throughout his life, inclusing an 'Old' Iron Man competition. According to all of the stories, Grandpa swears Jimmy cheated and Jimmy swears Phil tried to cheat by changing the rules during... whatever they were doing. According to his doctor, he is very strong and agile for his age and can bench press two-hundred ten pounds. He was a Chinese Checkers champ, until Robby Fisher stole his prize, and his nick name was Steely Phil. For those of you who have done your homework, Steely Phil is a take off of the Naked Lunch's 'Steely Dan', which in turn was used as the name for a rock band which has never put out one song that I actually like. Black Cow was alright, but I only really like the beginning portion of it that Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz sampled off of for their hit "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)".
Friends: Almost all of the boarders except for Oskar, but then again nobody really likes Oskar. Sometimes, Suzie doesn't even like Oskar and she's married to him. Other than that, Jimmy Kafka is constantly referred to as a friend, then an enemie. Besides him, there's always the neighbors in the city - Mr. Green, Mrs. Vitello, the kids' parents, etc.
Marriage: Phil is married to his elementary school sweetheart, Gertrude, often referred to as Gertie or Pookie. Side note - Garfield has a stuffed bear named Pookie. COINCIDENCE? YES! BUT BOTH CARTOONS ARE GREAT! Also, Phil has a long-time obsession with Heady Lamarr, an actress of the old days. Supposedly, he had been close enough to get a "personally" signed photograph of her and had a chance to marry her instead of Gertrude.
Overall: For a grandpa, Phil is a pretty cool old guy. When the beating of the elder one comes, he shall be spared from revolution... hold on, let me start this back up. For a grandpa, Phil is a pretty cool guy. He often sends Arnold off to sleep with amazing stories of ghosts or his parents, but most of them weren't true. A few of them have held some truth though. He doesn't always lie, just sometimes twists the truth a little. If he could just find a way to get the boarders to pay their rent on time, he'd be one amazing person.
