Oskar Kokoshka
Age: He's probably in his late forties. The man is going bald.
Address: The Sunset Arms Boarding House
Pets: He doesn't have any pets, and if he did, he'd probably stop feeding them or something.
Occupation: His first and only job that he's ever had (and probably still does have) is being a newspaper delivery boy. Arnold helped him get the job and he almost was fired from it. The first two days, he didn't show up, but then Arnold convinced him that he should live up to his word and finally take some action to the job. I think he's been fired because even after the fact, Suzie has still whined at him about money. He still asks people for money too. Then again, when I had a job, I asked for money. I had my own, I wanted theirs.
Fun Facts: Oskar is a very superstitious person and carries a lucky horseshoe in his back pocket. He blames it on old family traditions, but come on! A freakin' horseshoe! You don't just usually keep one of those in your back pocket! Oskar can play the saxophone... just not very well, or at least according to one episode. In the 'School Dance' episode, Oskar auditions to be Arnold's musical act for the school dance and is terrible. In the movie, Harvey and Oskar are both playing and sound fine together. Maybe he had a few lessons... but how could he afford them? Maybe with the money from his paper route! Oskar has (I think) a nephew named Oskar who he has baby sat before. When at first he didn't like the kid, it turned out later that he grew very attatched and adored and cared about the little infant. Oskar didn't know how to read until Arnold taught him. Oskar can read now, but not very good. ("Would you like to pet the kitty? Yes, I'd like to pet the kitty.")
Friends: Oskar tries to be as friendly as possible with some people but usually spoils the relationship with his greediness and his desire to beg for money. The only real friends he has are Arnold and Suzie, his wife. The other boarders do care about him; they just don't especially like him. Ernie gave Oskar a bag of coal for Christmas.
Marriage: Oskar is married to Suzie, and Suzie is so helplessly in love with him that she can't bear do divorce him. Arnold actually introduced the two.
Overall: Oskar is a money-grubbing, broke, selfish tight wad who never has his own and can never pay back. He also is an gamblaholic who often wastes the money he does have in poker games or at the horse race track. Yet inside, Oskar does have the will to do good every once in a while. One time, he had been thrown out of his room by Suzie and decided to leave the boarding house. When Suzie offered him some money to take on his way out so he wouldn't be completely helpless, he turned it down and won her back. Oskar will sometimes try to help other boarders, but his methods often involve cheating in some how. It's just him, he has some problems he needs to resolve. "Oh, you like money? Let's build on that." Dr. MDT is in.
