Heathers (1989)
A.K.A.  Leathal Atrraction (if you live in France)
Greetings and Salutations! Heathers is a lovely little shocker of a film, it begins with 3 lovely girls talking and playin croquet and 'oh isn't it sweet' their all called Heathers when suddenly BAM! one of them hits an innocent girl on the head with a croquet ball!
Directed by Michael Lehmann, written by Daniel Waters and starring: Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice), Christian Slater (Pump up the Volume) and Shannen Doherty (Mallrats).  The film is set in a quiet town in Ohio.  The local high school, Westerburg, was named after Paul Westerburg, lead singer of 'the replacements', Winonas favourite band at the time.  The storyline is basically:  Veronica is part of 'the most powerful clique in the school' but she doesn't really like her popularity or her friends for that matter.  Along come James Dean (JD) who Veronica instantly falls for and before you know it their killing the most popular kiddiewinks in the school left, right and centre and making it look like suicide.  The ending, well we cant ruin it for those that haven't seen the film, however it is quite predictable and rather cheesy.  But anyways, its pretty much Veronica stars to realise that JD has bigger plans for the kiddies at Westerburg and takes it upon herself to try and stop him.
Heather was very much a reaction to the non-stop teen, high school movies that kept breeding like locuts during the 80's, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Porkys etc..  Although they're good movies (in someways) to have the same sorta thing being released time and time again can really start to piss you off, remember the whole lets do horror movies to death in the late 90's?  The whole high school movie thing is very much explioted throughout the film, with all the heavy sterotyping of the different social groups within the high school.  For example, the geeks and nerds all have glasses, poor dress sense (although everyones dress sense in the movie is a bit...agh), think their gonna be tested on everything and spit milk out their noses.
What makes this film so great is primarilly it doesn't take itself very seriously, it rips it out of high school and the teen movie.  Also the little things in the film, bits of gory (JD lighting his ciggarette off Veroncia recently burnt hand), the dark comedy (JD and his homosexual artefacts), sadness (the sister of Ram at his funeral) and those quotables, one liners and little bits that make you think from the film.  K, here's a quick top 5:

1)  'Fuck me gently with a chainsaw!'
2)  (Heather Duke at Heather Chandlers funeral, while shes praying) 'I prayed for the death of Heather Chandler many times, and i felt bad everytime i did it, but i kept doing it anyway.  Now i know you understood everything.  Praise Jesus!  Hallelujah!
3)  'Its great to be able to talk to someone and not have to ask what your major is, i hate that....(rather long silence)...so when you go to college what do you think you'll study?'
4)  'The extreme only seems to make an impression'
5)  'Seven schools in seven states and the only thing different is my locker combination.'

As always with films you have to look at the interesting points that are always raised or hiden within the film.  Heathers is laced with these little lovelies!  For example, when Veronica and JD write the first suicide note the debate they have about what to put, how to phrase and the possible interpretations of the note.  The the faculty members talking about the note later and coming up with a whole new set of interpretations, makes you realise how open to interpretation everything is, you'd expect something like a suicide note to bring finality but sometimes it just raises even more questions.  Then theres the classic popular girl hating what she has to do to remain popular.  At the Remmington party Heather Chandler 'goes down' on a lad and then we see her afterwards in the bathroom washing her mouth out and giving herself a rather intense look of self-hatred.
Anyways, you have to see this film, its just so....well very.
Some interesting Heathers facts:

1)  It was shot in 32 days!!!!!
2)  That bit with JD and Veronica with the German bullets, 'Ich luge' means, in german, 'i am lying'
3)  At the beginning when the Heathers are playin croquet, Heather McNamara is wearing a wig.
4)  A variety of ending were written including the school getting blown up and a prom being held in heaven to Veronica shotting JD dead!
5)  Alot of lines were cut from the film as well, my favourite one is by Veronica who saya 'Its God versus my boyfriend.........and Gods losing!'
