BACKGROUND

Ganthanor was born to Galnor and Calie Flagenstavos who were of noble blood and who owned much land and possessed a good deal of wealth. Ganthanor's life was easy but being a pampered rich kid molded him into a spoiled child. There were many times that Ganthanor's tantrum's brought disdain from the other nobles and houses in the city of Flage. As a boy of 12 he had seen his aunt Mythiera and uncle Yarule, the Paragon and Paragoness of Flage, executed, along with 50 other nobles, and 500 commoners captured by the conquerors in the Battle of Flage. The submission and cooperation of his parents eased the pacification of Flage and brought the old order in line with the new. As a result Flage has not suffered the poor administration of other Delta cities like Kyroz.

As Ganthanor grew up, he began to notice that other people generally did not like the Flagenstavos family. The realization that his family supported the current regime and as such were allowed to keep their lands, their wealth, and their life style.

Two days after his 19th birthday, he heard screams for help down a short alleyway. Without thinking, he plowed head long into the alley and discovered two of the Hegemon's men raping a young peasant girl. Fury built up instantly within him. Pulling out his sword Ganthanor hacked into the assailants with such ferocity that he gave no thought as to my own well being. The battle lasted several minutes for the two guards played with the young Ganthanor. It was obvious to the guards immediately that the youth was not their equal and although having "some" ability, he was no match for them. Luck and some help from the peasant girl were the only reasons  he survived. There were no witnesses to the event, but that did not stop Hegemon from murdering hundreds as payment for his guard's deaths. Ganthanor's sweetheart was among the executed hostages.

Plagued by guilt, Ganthanor fled Flage swearing revenge against the Pelai and to return one day to liberate his city. As his parents served the Hegemon, his departure was covered up as a kidnapping by the Rebels, and he was declared dead, officially (in Flage). Ganthanor was said to have been "murdered" by the his Rebel "captors", but most Flagans believed Ganthanor had been murdered by the Pelai. the relationship between the old Flage grandees and the Pelai, which has remained shaky.

While Ganthanor's father nominally ruled as Paragon The power behind the throne was Dyaniv the Pelai Viceroy. With the fall of Marghash, Dyaniv was withdrawn, and Ganthanor's father Galnor had hoped to assume the full powers of the high office of Paragon of Flage. He was however deposed and imprisoned, briefly freed and reinstated and then deposed and imprisoned again. During the last dethronement, Ganthanor's sisters were killed. Yanser, Ganthanor's brother disappeared shortly after Ganthanor left Flage, and it was suspected that he was assassinated by Dyaniv.
