HELL: Role Play

First of all, this isn't the place to talk about Real Life, this is an escape from such. You aren't a person sitting in front of your computer. You ARE your character. Think of this screen as a stage, and everyone out there is your audience. Your character will be interacting with the other characters throughout chat, its a completely different world from what you may be used to.

There is no correct way to role play. The only real clause is to make your words as visual as possible. Description, discription, description. Learn a style you like and have fun with it, or try out something new. You want them to be able to picture in their minds what you look like, what you're doing, where you are, and even how you feel.

As common curtesy, you will want to keep OOC (out of character) between two people in a PM. Understandably, if you have to have an OOC heart-to-heart with more than one other person, make a room. Talk it out. Just try to keep the RPing in the main rooms, and the other stuff out of it. Another note on this: Keep OOC things OOC, and IC(in character) things IC. Say that Bob and Billy might be best friends OOC, but IC they are arch rivals.

You dont have to be a serious character. PLEASE someone make one that isn't just a badass. The world isn't a fun place without the nerds, losers, and dimwits we all know and love. You can be something simple, like an inanimate object. If you can RP it out, more power to you.

IC Board: Check it out if you are looking for examples of RP, would like to start a storyline, or join one.

Don't just skip around, make sure you READ what people are writing, it will help you a good deal with how your character fits into the world of RP. A major part of having a successful Role Play is if everyone pays enough attention to what is happening to realize what needs to be done for different situations.

Role Playing starts the second you enter, and doesn't end until you leave or go OOC. For brief OOC moments, use the thought bubble command, which is described on the TERMS Page; or merely write in OOC as a quick reminder of your status.

And Just a quick note on the importance of punctuation!

Dear John:
I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are
generous, kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you
admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me for
other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever
when we're apart. I can be forever happy--will you let me be
yours?

Gloria
